On Friday, January 1, 2010 at 9 a.m. (MST), millions of spectators from around  the world will celebrate the New Year with the 121st Tournament of Roses Parade.  This year, two-time Emmy Award winning actor Bryan Cranston (of the New Mexico-made TV series Breaking Bad) and his daughter, plus the reigning Miss New Mexico Nicole Miner and former Miss New Mexico Christina Olmi, will join Academy-Award-winning Pepé Le Pew and Penelope Pussycat aboard the float "Enchantment is in the Air" as it travels Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, California. This is the fourth time in the past five years that New Mexico will be represented by a float in the parade.  And for the first time, it will feature the logo of the New Mexico Centennial.
 
Measuring 55 feet long and 24 feet high, the float represents the colorful landscape of New Mexico using over 50,000 roses. Unique rock formations are created in butterscotch and bronze chrysanthemums, and clouds of white coconut flakes float above the landscape floor. Yucca blossoms have been created with over 10,000 white dendrobium orchid florets individually glued onto small welded rods. Tune in locally on ABC, NBC, HGTV (uncut), Univision, Travel Channel, and RFD-TV.

New Mexico's new Centennnial license plate is scheduled to arrive at MVDs statewide in mid-January.

For new vehicles, motorists will have a choice between the Centennial plate and the "yellow" plate -- or you can replace your current plate for a small fee. Look for an announcement from MVD and check the Centennial website for details.

Thank you to the agency and community partners who have submitted over 100 project, initiative, and event ideas for inclusion in the NM Centennial Master Plan. The Plan is a working document that explains the philosophy and planning goals of the NM Centennial, and  compiles the 100+ project submissions received to date.

If you have an additional project, initiative, or event, you can use the updated Project Planning form to let us know about it. This information will help Centennial planners promote projects and synergize the many efforts coming to life. Please refer to the guidelines and the mission statement for more information. Also available online is a list of types of community projects and ways projects can be produced with a low-environmental impact.

Please feel free to consult the planning timeline on the website to be informed of efforts to date, and important benchmarks for the coming two years.
