Actually, it's just one of many reasons, but Taos was in the top ten best places for winter weather in 2009 and 2010, according to lists of the best and the worst compiled by The Weather Channel. Miami Beach was at the top of the worst list, but Taos took second place on the best list, with Seattle at number one.

Here's where I go to walk a couple of miles several times a week...another reason I live here:

Taos Makes Another “Most” List

I don't ski, but I do know that Al's Run is no piece of cake. Anyway, any mention of Taos in travel and vacation articles is a help. All of this recent snow is great as well.

She Didn’t Like OUR Landscape?!

A story in the New York Times about relocating a small business out of the big city to a smaller or more rural area came up in my news reader on a Taos keyword search. So, I jumped over there and read it. Actually, Taos was a small mention in a good story mentioning people's specific reasons for leaving the city and taking their businesses elsewhere.

It's still a good story, but one person's statement that she rented a home in Taos, but didn't like the arid climate or the landscape was interesting. I guess everyone has their idea of natural beauty. I guess it's possible she didn't like sagebrush and didn't drive the Enchanted Circle, or just venture into Taos Canyon. Oh well, it's getting crowded here anyway.

Sustained steep pitches, chutes and cliff bands everywhere with some of the biggest moguls you will ever see (which the local skiers are very proud to lay claim to) make Taos an expert rider’s wet dream on a pow day. Add a super friendly and relaxed mountain staff across the board and one of the most welcoming ski area atmospheres and the result is one of the best mountains I have ever experienced.

Just a quote from this article about boarding. Sounds like the more radical snowboard aficionados are finding Taos to be worthy of a trip. Sounds fine to me!

Taos Area Water Contaminant Reports

Though the data is from 2004-2006, The New York Times just ran an article and links to water contaminant reports from all around the country. This includes 44 water systems in Taos County. And, here's the report for the Taos Municipal Water System.

The best news is the 100 contaminants they didn't find. And, only four showed readings above health guidelines, though they did fall within legal guidelines. Articles cited data collected by the Environmental Working Group. Newer data isn't available, with this quote from their site: "The New Mexico Environment Department did not respond to requests for more recent test data. Contact your water utility for the latest water quality report."

The Taos Hum is Real – But Unreal

It's interesting reading about the Taos Hum in this article. But, I'm not sure if it's subliminal contact telepathy, as one person suggests. However, since the government has become interested, there's some research being done.

El Monte Sagrado in the Denver Post

DenverPost.com writes about El Monte Sagrado today. The article is short, covering the amenities, decor, location, dining and room rates. Any exposure in the ski season for Taos hotels and resorts is a plus, especially in Colorado or Texas.

As a freelance writer, I wish I had the skill for travel writing. I'd hardly consider it work to stay and eat at the resort with an assignment for 400 words. Good article though for Taos and for El Monte Sagrado.
