The dry forests certainly could use the rain.  Too bad we can't direct where it falls.  Click on image for larger size.

Taos Color - Iris in Taos Canyon

While I'm just a very average amateur photographer, I try to buy nice toys.  My new Pentax K7 was used for this photo of an isolated iris in Taos Canyon.

I used the internal digital blue filter to only pull out blue from black and white, and this was the result.  A much larger image with Exif data is available if you click on the image.

From what I saw on a drive this weekend, the gates might be open, but many roads are still snowed in at higher elevations.

Got my new fishing license yesterday, so I wanted to wet a hook. Morphy Lake is small, but has some great camping and picnic areas, and an easy shoreline to fish. Only paddles and electric motors allowed for boating, so it's a quiet and beautiful spot.

I placed a couple of images below of the dam, top one is from Picasa and is geotagged so you can see it on a map. The other is HDRI enhanced. Nice day, but a little windy, no fish.

So, I took these with a 0, +2, and -2 stops, and then used the software to merge and align them and use different renditions and tone adjustments.  It's pretty amazing what you can do, and I know that this first effort will improve as I practice.   Here are five different renditions of the same merged three photos.

But, according to an article about predicting snowfall, there can be as little as a tenth of an inch of moisture in 10 inches of light and fluffy snowfall.

But, the main focus of the article is how new methods can help to better predict the amount of snowfall by simple calculations involving crest level wind speeds and temperatures.  Interesting, so check it out.

And, this one about being one of the "most dangerous ski slopes" isn't really negative.

I don't ski, but I do know that Al's Run is no piece of cake. Anyway, any mention of Taos in travel and vacation articles is a help. All of this recent snow is great as well.
