I've tried with others in the past to interest the town and other organizations in a single event site for the area where tourists could find everything going on. Unfortunately, even when I was willing to donate the domain TaosCalendar.com, we couldn't get the town or other major players involved.

Some have businesses which sell space on calendars, so they didn't want a free one. Others just don't seem to grasp the value of a single "place to go" to learn about Taos, plan a visit, or check out local photos and videos. There are fine sites out there, like the Taos News site, and they have a calendar, but I wanted more, like discussion forums and the ability for members to participate, no matter how large or small their business, or just individual artists and other residents.

There is now a brand new site at TaosTalk.com, and it's open to anyone who wants to join, and will always be free. In sponsoring this site, I'm hoping that the many talented individual artists and writers in the area will get involved, as well as all residents and businesses. The site allows individual members to:

have their own blog

participate in discussion forums by group interest

upload photos, videos and music

promote a business via a blog or discussion participation

Please consider joining the site and participating. It's small because it's just days old as I write this, but it should grow quickly. Check out the features and for those who do not have a Web presence, try blogging there. If you're an artist, upload photos of your work, if a musician, upload samples of your music.

Even though it's mid-May and there is still snow on many of the Forest Service roads, they're open. In fact #76 from Tres Ritos has been open a couple of weeks or more. I was hoping to see if the map was right yesterday and drive all the way from Tres Ritos over into the Black Lake/Angel Fire area. It didn't work out, as the road was still too snowy, but I took a couple of wrong turns, had to move some trees across the road and saw some great scenery.

I've been working for several days on a better way to take images, tag them with their latitude and longitude, and display them on the site, both in posts and on maps. Well, I think I've finally gotten it all together...

Even better, as I take new photos, they're added to a great mapping site, and you can view maps by items of interest in the Taos area. As each map has the links to the others at the top, I'll just take you here to the Taos Arts Map as an example. All are easily accessed from the Maps tab at the top of every page. You can zoom, change map type, and mouse over the icons or the images for more information.

I'm trying to map every hotel, motel, b&b, business, building, restaurant, gallery, studio, horse trail, hiking trail and campground in the Enchanted Circle area. To do that, I need to take a photo at the site, but I don't mind, and it's free. I want this to be the best site on the Web for Taos area information. So, if you have a business or favorite location you want mapped, email it to me, and I'll move it up higher on the list. These maps will get more on them as quickly as I can take the photos.
