Typo correction:  Town of Taos 0.25 proposed gross receipts tax increase, if enacted, will result in a Town GRT rate of 8.4375 percent (not 8.4275).

7/22 – 1 to 2 pm, Practice session for “El Vibaron” for the Fiesta de Taos Children’s Parade.  See 7/24 item below for details.

7/22 – 7 pm, Gene Sanchez Presents Lecture on Gene Kloss at The Harwood Museum of Art of UNM.  This program is designed to complement the Harwood exhibition, “Gene Kloss from Berkeley to Taos”, featuring prints, drawings and paintings from various public and private collections including the Sangre de Christo Art Center. The exhibition is on view at the Harwood Museum through August 22nd.  Gene Sanchez is author of “Gene Kloss:  An American Printmaker” a two volume catalogue raisonne of the artist’s work.  Curator of Education Lucy Perera Explains: “For the Harwood Lecture, Gene Sanchez will share stories about the artist, as well as discuss her amazingly complex work processes. Touching on Kloss’s love and respect for the Taos community which is beautifully captured in her work. Kloss is considered a master of aquatint and etching which she combined for effects which are at once painterly and precise. The exhibition at the Harwood is a visual treasure trove of landscapes and ceremonies that are unique to Taos. These works honor the ways of our Hispanic and Native American communities which are at once respectful and full of life.”  Lecture admission is $6 for Harwood Museum Alliance Members; $8 non-members. 7/23 – 12 to 5 p.m., Town of Taos offices will be closed in the afternoon in observance of Taos Day.

7/23 – Deadline for 2011 Taos Vacation Guide Program -- The program includes two print guides (the official response pieces mailed to all tourism inquiries received from Town ads and PR) and TaosVacationGuide.com. The TVG Program – now in its 24th year - is brought to you by Taos County Lodgers Association (TCLA).  TCLA works cooperatively with the Town of Taos and other tourism groups interested in increasing the number of visitors to our area. The Program leverages its $150,000 with the Town’s $400,000 marketing budget, and those of other area marketing programs, to give each participant even more bang for the buck.  All income from ad sales goes toward marketing Taos as a travel destination.  The Program is being supported by a number of merchant groups, from a realtors association, to shopping districts, and merchant associations. Participating as a group is an even more economical way to be part of the Program. 7/23 through 25 - Fiestas de Taos,Taos Plaza,is a community celebration honoring the two patron saints of Taos, Santa Ana and Santiago. The annual event, popularly referred to as "The Taos Fiestas," traditionally is a time when everyone is invited to put aside their labor for two days and enjoy the leisure of the holy days. This year’s ceremonies are themed Returning to Sacred Places or Regresando a Lugares Sagrados.  Attendees can expect a celebration with great music and performances from some of Taos' most talented.  A historic parade, children’s parade, mariachi and traditional dances will be some of the highlights of the 3-day event.  Experience this time honored cultural tradition, www.fiestasdetaos.com for more info.

Now through 9/7/10 – “Art of the Doll, Return to Sacred Places,” curated by Barbara Thomas.  Artwork now available online for viewing at www.taosartgallery.blogspot.comTwo Graces, open every day, Ranchos de Taos, invites the public to a group exhibit of contemporary artist made dolls through September 7. Barbara Thomas, the guest curator, has chosen to include Michelle Marquette, Chris Roberts, Louise Casselman, Del Orr, Caterina Giglio, Rick Phelps, Linda May Jasper-Vogel, Erin Rivera Merriman, Barbara Thomas & Robert Cafazzo.  A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Haitian Relief Orphanage program.  For info., Robert Cafazzo, 575-758-4639.

7/24 – 9 am, “El Vibaron”, Fiesta de Taos Children’s Parade - Meet at Enos Garcia Elementary School.  Children of all ages are welcome. Practice will be held on Thursday, July 22, 1 to 2 pm at the Town of Taos Youth & Family Center Skate Rink, 407 Paseo del Canon East.  To sign up to participate in “El Vibaron” call Judy at 758-4160.  7/24 – 8 am to 1 pm, Friends of Taos Public Library will have its Town of Taos Library Book Sale during the Saturday Taos Farmers Market, Town Hall parking lot.  There are lots of great books and VHS tapes for sale – come early and get the best picks.

7/26 - Feast Day of Santiago, Taos Pueblo, is a special observation that offers families the time to reconnect with tradition through dance, song, and food. No photography or recording is allowed as these feast days are religious ceremonies. For info., 758-1028, www.taospueblo.com
