Carson National Forest Wildfire Update
Sunday, June 13, 2010
--  Yesterday’s wind event combined with the dry conditions and high temperatures resulted in an above average amount of fire activity on several of New Mexico’s forests.  The Carson National Forest experienced several fire starts, the Weed Grass at approximately 3 acres,  several false alarms, and one small suspected human caused fire north of the Tres Piedras Ranger District.  This increased fire activity and continued high fire danger has prompted fire management officials to preposition two Type 6 engines, a Type 1 Interagency Hot Shots Fire Crew and the Red River Fire Chasers on the Carson National Forest.  There is also a possibility of staging a smoke jumper crew somewhere in Northern New Mexico.   There are currently no fire restrictions on the Carson however the public is reminded to use extreme caution.  Remember, if you think you can’t camp without a fire, imagine camping without a forest.  Dorotea V. Martinez, Fire Information Assistant, Carson National Forest, 575-758-6345, 575-741-1516 cell, dvmartinez@fs.fed.us

Taos - The soul of the Southwest

Autumn in Taos is especially beautiful. Early October provides stunning displays of cottonwood, aspen, and willow. Taos is a world-class destination, nestled between the Rio Grande Gorge and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

This tiny town (pop. 7,000), at the foot of magnificent 12,000-foot Taos Mountain, has a 1,000-year-old pueblo, a vibrant Hispanic culture, a thriving art colony, and a full range of restaurants, from quick and casual to haute cuisine.

Every stay in Taos is memorable. Non-bridge playing spouses will be able to enjoy golf, hiking, biking, fishing, and browsing and shopping the fine arts galleries and craft stores for which Taos is famous, as hundreds of thousands of visitors do every year.

Since the Taos Club is just in its fifth year, we have lots of 299ers eager to play in our 299er stratified games. We encourage new bridge players to take the plunge and play in a tournament catered to them. Any player joining ACBL at the Taos Sectional will play free that day.

Taos is 70 miles north of Santa Fe on Highway 68.
