3) Extreme Fire Conditions illicit a Forest Service Warning - Fire officials for the Carson National Forest are warning the general public to be extremely careful for the next several days with any device that might start a fire. The short term weather pattern has entered into a “super Hanes index,” which means the extremely high temperatures coupled with the very low humidity will create a dangerous situation where even the greenest of vegetation will burn. The weather situation is both a rare and dangerous one.
Visitors and residents should be extremely careful to use spark arrestors on all power equipment and off road vehicles and be very careful with any outdoor burning and to not to park cars in grassy areas. In situations like these, even small fires can become very large, very quickly, firefighters warn.
The Carson National Forest has not entered into fire restrictions at this time as officials hope this will be a short-lived event, lasting only a few days. However, fire managers will re-evaluate the situation early next week. More info., Kathy DeLucas, Public Affairs Officer, Carson National Forest, 208 Cruz Alta Road, Taos, NM 87571, (575) 758-6303, (575) 741-0073 (Cell).
