5) Taos Festival of Art & Architecture: The 2010 launch of this effort is part of the www.TaosSacredPlaces.com traveler education effort – and also our local support for Taos’ treasures. This is an invitation to be part of the 2010 Festival – focused on assisting with this summer’s enjarre (plastering) of the St. Francis de Asis Church in Ranchos de Taos. Gabriel Romero is assembling a crew of volunteers for this unique project from the ranks of the Taos Festival of Art and Architecture and anyone else who would be interested in participating. Here’s the drill: the project will start Monday, June 7th at 8:00 a.m. and go until 4:00 p.m. each day until the 19th (it may extend a bit longer depending on the amount of yearly erosion that needs to be fixed). It will be necessary for anyone who wants to work on the crew to be at the initial Monday’s training, even if they will only be able to be on the project part time during the following 2 weeks. No specific skills are needed, except a willingness to handle tools and get dirty. In particular Gabe is hoping to have at least 4 people each day who are willing to work from a cage that will be suspended from a crane for the work that needs to happen on the higher parts of the structure. Insurance for the intrepid folks who will work on this part of the mudding is being worked out currently. Each participant should wear work clothes suitable for gardening or similar work. Plenty of food and water will be available for all volunteers. I would like to hear from all who are interested in helping with this amazing, yearly, historical effort as soon as possible so I can get a number to Gabe. If you have any questions I will be happy to get answers for you. I have always felt a thrill watching this time honored and devotional labor enacted each summer for this venerable sacred space. I hope many of you will participate alongside me in June. Steve Storz, Parks Gallery, 575-751-0343
