Town of Taos News Brief 10.2.09, 4 items

2)      Town of Taos Special Meeting, October 8, 2009.  See attached agenda.  Town of Taos Council Meetings can now be heard live via the internet on your sound-enabled computer.  This new streaming audio service is offered by the Town to expand the potential audience that can now access meetings at home or at work on a real-time basis.  This audio streaming service is available on the Town’s web site, www.taosgov.com and on Taos Local Television’s web site, www.taostv.org.  On the Town’s site, the button to “click and listen” only appears when audio is actively streaming – and is located on lower right corner of the site’s front page.  To listen, computers must have free WinAmp software www.winamp.com, or iTunes for Macs.  Links to download can be found on the Taos Local Television site.

3)      Town of Taos is searching for a Youth Representative to “Sit” on the Town Council.  The Town is requesting interested high school age youth to send in letters (or emails) of application, including resume/biographical information, to Tamara Romero in the Mayor’s office, tromero2@taosgov.com, 751-2003, should they be interested in being the Town of Taos Youth Representative on the Council.  Mayor Darren Cordova and his Council would very much like a “voice of Taos youth” to be actively represented and participate.  Or mail applications to Town Hall, attn: Tamara Romero, 400 Camino de la Placita, Taos, NM 87571.  Deadline is October 16, 2009.

4)      Fuentes Prescribed Burn Today, Friday, October 2 -- If you were wondering about the smoke in the ski to the south -- At 9:30 a.m. fire managers on the Carson National Forest ignited the Fuentes prescribed burn project.  Favorable weather conditions and available resources have allowed managers to commence plans to treat approximately 100 acres today.  This broadcast burn is being conducted in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer to reduce fuel loads and improve wildlife habitat.  Project is located on State Highway 518, south of Taos, off of Forest Road 114 across from the US Hill Vista Point.  Smoke was visible along State Highway 518, Pot Creek, Taos, Penasco and surrounding communities.  Motorist in the area are advised to proceed with caution in areas impacted by smoke.
