Town of Taos News Brief 6.5.09



1) Town of Taos Regular Council Meeting, this Tues., June 9 – see agenda attached.

2) Town of Taos Planning & Zoning Meeting, notes about results from staff attached.  Email rperea@taosgov.com for more information.  This agenda includes results about the relocation of the Men’s Homeless Shelter.

3) www.TaosExpress.com was off to a great start with paying passengers both directions on its first Thursday night of operation.  Photo attached.  Info and reservations at 575-751-4459.  Note:  The shuttle must leave promptly from Taos to make sure it meets the New Mexico Rail Runner in a timely fashion,  so don’t cut your connection too close.

4) Kit Carson Park Town of Taos Update on June Events (remember, the overall calendar is online at www.taosgov.com):

5) Reminder: Two major Summer of Love Events this weekend – Country Joe McDonald concert at KTAO, and 11 a.m. Hippie Dippie Parade from Taos Post Office to Taos High School – traffic will be disrupted.  Plan ahead (and have fun).

6) The Town of Taos Taos Community Auditorium hosts the Taos Center for the Arts’ ongoing events.  Below are reminders on two:

· The Summer of Love to Woodstock: Behind the Lens with Lisa Law, Encore Gallery - Taos Community Auditorium through July 6.  Gallery hours 11:00 to 3:00, Monday through Friday

· Taos Center for the Arts announces a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a visual art exhibit to occur in the Encore Gallery -- August 28 - September 20, 2009  (Submission deadline: Monday, June 8 by 5pm. )
RFPs must include:
Up to 5 images or drawn examples of work - No cd's please
Up to 1 page typed description on exhibit and why you should be chosen
$20 nonrefundable entry fee, no charge for current TCA Members
Artist phone, e-mail and mailing address
Mail or hand-deliver to: Taos Center for the Arts, Attention: Kristine Rippel

7) New show at the nonprofit University of New Mexico’s Harwood Museum of Art:

The Harwood Museum of Art and The Couse Foundation host Kindred Spirits and the Adobe Connection: E.I. Couse and J.H. Sharp and A Painter and his Camera: Model Studies by E.I. Couse. June 20 to October 19th, 2009.  Lecture, Marie Watkins, October 16; Gala Benefit Dinner, October 17.  Harwood is located at 238 Ledoux Street, Taos 575-758-9826.

Call for Entries! Announcing the Taos Ink 2009 Psychedelic Poster Contest.  Inviting all you local visual magicians to conjure psychedelic imagery for this far-out event while contributing to your brothers and sisters in the Taos art community.  Commemorate the 2009 Taos Summer of Love celebration by creating a poster in a style reminiscent of the late 1960s psychedelic era.  The winning entry will be screen printed in a limited edition and sold with a portion of the proceeds to benefit local artist organization TAO and the Harwood Children’s Art Program.  Get on the bus and be part of the grooviest thing going down in Taos this summer.
