Town of Taos Mayor Darren Cordova Names Michael Silva as Council Member Appointee

Town of Taos Mayor Darren Cordova has announced his selection of Michael Silva to serve as Council Member to fill out Cordova’s term of office as he vacates this position to become the new Taos Mayor.

Cordova has become Mayor upon the retirement of the previous Mayor, Bobby F. Duran, as of December 31, 2008.  He is to be sworn in later this evening at a special council meeting and reception, 5:30 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009, in Council Chambers, Civic Plaza Dr.

This proposed Council Member appointment will be before the sitting three Council Members for formal ratification at a special meeting this Monday, January 5^th, 9:30 a.m., Town Council Chambers, Civic Plaza Dr.

Mayor Cordova said that he has announced his choice early so that Council Members will have advance time to evaluate the selection before they are asked to vote this Monday.

“The choice of Michael Silva to fill my position on the Council through the 2010 March elections was not an easy one, given all 13 of the fine, qualified individuals who came forward and applied,” said Cordova.  “However, I view my appointment as the best one for the community in our efforts to effectively move the Town of Taos forward in a decisive and timely manner.  I hope my colleagues agree with me this Monday,” he said.

“Mr. Silva is a long time business owner here in Taos.  He also comes from a family-owned business background – business people who share my own philosophy.  And, Michael Silva has applied this successful approach in the real world.  He also currently serves on our Planning & Zoning Commission, a position he will have to vacate upon his confirmation as a Council Member.  I believe he will be an asset on our Town of Taos Council,” said Cordova.
