1) Taos County has forwarded the attached North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) community hearing/meeting schedule.  Meetings are to address NCRTD’s mission, their proposal in Taos County, and information about the proposed Taos County transit gross receipts tax increase on this November’s ballot.

2) Subject: Governor Richardson to Help New Mexicans Sign Up for Home Heating Assistance in Taos: Governor Richardson to Help New Mexicans Sign Up for Home Heating Assistance in Taos

Governor Bill Richardson will be in Taos on Monday, October 6th to help people sign up for home heating assistance through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  The Governor will be in Taos at 10:00am at the local Human Services Department Income Support Office at 145 Roy Road.

3) New movie slated for filming in New Mexico: Governor Bill Richardson Announces Night and Day to be Filmed in New Mexico

Governor Bill Richardson today announced that the Muse Entertainment Enterprises/TNT pilot, Night and Day, will shoot in New Mexico. The production will be shot in and around Albuquerque from October 22 through November 2 and expects to hire approximately 75 local crew members, 5  principal actors and over 150 background talent.  Night and Day will star William Fichtner (Crash, The Dark Knight, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Sherry Stringfield (ER, Autumn in New York, Shark, In Plain Sight) and Riley Smith (Radio, New York Minute, Eight Legged Freaks).  Executive producers are Emmy Award-winning Joel Surnow (24) and Emmy Award-winning Todd Robinson (The Legend of Billy the Kid).  Producers are Emmy Award-winning Neal Ahern (The West Wing) and KC Warnke, with Milan Cheylov directing.  Night and Day is a fast-paced, gritty drama about the life of Dan Hollister (Fichtner), an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms who works for a special threat intervention task force which is juxtaposed against his home life.  This marks the 109th major film or TV production shot in New Mexico since Governor Richardson took office, adding close to $1.9 billion dollars in economic impact.

4) NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick, hosted by Town of Taos Youth & Family Center and the Arizona Cardinals, 1-4 p.m., Oct. 12 at Kit Carson Park TCA Field next to the band stand, 211 Paseo del Pueblo Norte.  This free competition is open to youth ages 8 to 15.  Birth certificate/other proof of age required.  Registration forms at Town of Taos Youth & Family Center.  Call Judy, 758-4160, for more information.  c

5) "Rag Made Quilts," an exhibit featuring 17 handmade quilts including seven made by ARC artists, is running now through November 15 at the Town of Taos Public Library.  Artists’ reception is this Saturday October 4, from 2-4 pm.  Sponsored by Wholly Rags and Town of Taos Public Library, this annual show shows the colorful and often functional art that can be made from recycled materials.  For more information contact Wholly Rags’ Melissa Larson,751-9862.
