3) Announcement from Park’s Gallery, Bent Street: The Taos Fiestas have always been a highlight for citizens and visitors of Taos. Parades, great food, and the traditional crowning of the years Fiesta Queen have all become key elements of this annual, three day long, celebration. For Erin Currier enthusiasts, this weekend offers yet another point of interest. Erin Currier will be signing posters of her Fiesta Queens’ portraits in the Plaza on Fiesta Saturday; from 11am to 3 pm. Posters are priced at $20 each. Profits from the sale of these posters are donated to the Fiesta Queens’ Scholarship Fund and one other organization chosen each year by Erin.
4) “Watch Taos” this weekend on Discovery: “This Old House” Emmy award winner and television personality Steve Thomas was in Taos recently filming for the Discovery Channels’ new independent channel called “Planet Green”. Thomas’ work features Taos builder Beau Schoen. Planet Green channel will run 24/7 completely focused on living green. Schoen Construction was chosen for the show for its 30 year commitment in Taos to green building. The focal point for the program, to air July 18-July 22, is an addition Schoen was constructing at his own home, north-west of the town of Taos. Thomas narrowed in on the building of a portal because of the use of reclaimed lumber. He also was interested in the trombe walls, cork flooring, reclaimed doors. http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv-schedules/series.html?paid=237.15646.123160.35148.1&start=10 Contact: Bonnie Golden 575-770-9001
5) “Watch Taos” this weekend on CBS: In an effort to reach new, younger clientele in a market already popular with New Mexico visitation, the NM Tourism Department was a sponsor July 11-13 of the Maloof Money Cup – the richest skateboarding event ever (overall purse $450,000) at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, Calif. Our presence at this very popular, up-and-coming event gave us an opportunity to reach the California travel market. California remains second (Texas is first) among all states in the number of overnight visitors to New Mexico. The exposure for New Mexico included a booth and Moby VIC at the Orange County Fairgrounds, attended by more than 250,000 over opening weekend; and a 30-second spot during the upcoming CBS broadcast of the event this coming Sunday (July 20) at 1 p.m. Mountain Time. Be sure to watch. Contact: Mike Stauffer, Communications Director, New Mexico Tourism Department, 505-827-7379

Reporter: Liz Hayes Producer: Stephen Rice
“These days you don’t have to look far to find gloom and doom. Global warming, soaring fuel and food prices, on and on it goes. But Liz Hayes has managed to find a tiny glimmer of hope, a community that’s beating the 21st century blues. A place that gives “people power” a whole new meaning. There are no electricity or water bills, they grow their own food and recycle everything. They’ve simply unplugged. Once it was dismissed as just a hippy-trippy dream, now it’s a great, practical idea that’s spreading around the world. And the good news is, it’s painless. The good life, with all creature comforts intact.”…see video clip on above web site link.
