Nashville’s Privy…Isn’t
We Taos residents are privy to a great many cultural sites and exhibits. Unfortunately, Nashville believes that their privy is superior…as in the restroom at the Hermitage Hotel. It seems that the annual America’s Best Public Restroom contest has El Monte Sagrado competing with the Hermitage Hotel, among other fine loos.
Now, I generally wouldn’t get excited about a contest like this, but Gail Kerr, the author of the article in the Nashville Tennessean, poked a bit of fun at our local facilities. I’ll just quote her reference to the El Monte Sagrado restrooms:
“Their restrooms have sinks (they call them, sniff, “hand basins”) made out of fossilized rock with a spigot “activated by sensors.” Sounds like something that oughta be inside a glass case at the Taos nature center. And those dad gum automated faucets? You never get enough water to wash the soap off your hands.”
What is this “sniff” reference? Are we being ridiculed for our elevated sensibilities? And the Taos nature center comment went right over my head. Does she disdain fossilized rock as opposed to steel, or man made porcelain? Are we to lose the competition because our rock is older than her rock?
The title of her article is Nashville restroom deserves to win. I’m lost Gail, help me out.
