Town of Taos News Brief #46 May 21, 2008
1) Added Loop Route Stop for Chile Line Memorial Day Weekend ‘Special’: Yesterday the Chile Line Division distributed a map and schedule for this special circular route this weekend. Please replace it wit the attached. The attached includes 3 stops – an added one at the Town of Taos free parking lot on Kit Carson at Quesnel. Other two stops are Ledoux Street at Ranchitos and Taos Center for the Arts (TCA) parking lot at Kit Carson Park.
2) Unsecured, open wireless internet service is now available for free at the Town of Taos Public Library. Tourists and locals — bring your laptops and enjoy!
3) The regular Chile Line routes, the Taos Regional Landfill and the Town of Taos Recycling Center are closed to the public this Monday during the Memorial Day holiday.
4) This Thursday evening – Taos Plaza Live (TPL) starts with free music on Taos Plaza. Everyone is welcome. Summer line-up for this great, weekly event is attached.
5) Historic District and Town of Taos Police: Chief Syling has assigned Officer Philip Holmes to be ‘on assignment’, providing a walking police presence in the Taos Plaza historic district area during the coming summer months. Officer Holmes will be particularly active in the downtown area 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays (also staying later on Thursday nights for Taos Plaza Live). He’ll be introducing himself to area merchants and getting to know them better, welcoming and assisting visitors to the area, and otherwise being helpful and high profile. Officer Holmes has also been briefed by the Chief on special issues historic district residents and merchants have expressed as the summer season approaches. 7) Help To Welcome Taos Visitors: The Taos Visitor Center’s operations are extended for the busy summer traffic days. Open 7 days a week, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with extended hours to 7 p.m. Thurs., Fri. and Sat. through August 30, 2008. Taos Plaza Information Kiosk is also open for the summer season, staffed mid-day by volunteers Thurs. - Sat. Want to volunteer and help welcome and guide tourists? Call Brenda Judges at 751-4648.
Two Hour Free Parking in Historic District: The Town has implemented two-hour free parking at meters in the downtown area starting the week of June 2. Watch for decals on the meters – and leave your quarters behind for the first two hours!
9) Taos Municipal Courts Now Accept Online Payments: The Court has partnered with CitePayUSA.com to enable online payments of fines and other fees. A new info page is also in the works. Link to both pages by going to the home page of www.taosgov.com.
10) Catch the Reading Bug at Town of Taos Public Library — 2008 Summer Reading Program June 6 through August 1. Winners for Reading and Essay Contests will receive awards — All forms for Reading Contest must be returned by 5 p.m.,7/28.

* Summer Reading Program & Crafts Grades 1st - 6th (Craft Limit 24), 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, 6/11, 6/25, 7/9, 7/23
* Toddler Story Time & Crafts - 10:30 a.m. Thursdays (Craft Limit 20) - Program subject to change.
