Taos, NM -- The Millicent Rogers Museum is pleased to announce the opening
of the exhibition Treasures from the Vault: A Family Legacy, which will
run from May 6 - August 24, 2008. An Opening Reception will be held on
Tuesday, May 6th, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. This event is free for members,
with regular admission fees for all others. The adult admission fee for
New Mexico residents is $5. Regular adult admission is $10.

Treasures from the Vault: A Family Legacy pays tribute to Millicent Rogers
and her family as patrons of the arts of Northern New Mexico and the
Southwest. Although Millicent never envisioned a museum in her name, she
was passionate about surrounding herself with the things she loved. Her
keen intelligence, artistic eye, and talent for collecting created
collections that have become internationally recognized as some of the
finest examples of vintage Native American and Hispanic arts and crafts.

Paul and Arturo Peralta-Ramos, two of Millicent's three sons, established
the Millicent Rogers Museum Foundation in 1953-the year of their mother's
death-to preserve their mother's collections. They then founded the
Millicent Rogers Museum in 1958. Paul established the core of the Museum's
collections by donating many of his mother's own pieces of Native American
and Hispanic textiles and jewelry. Over the years, other family members
have donated pieces from their personal collections to the Museum.

This exhibition features selected textiles and jewelry donated by Paul and
other family members. Because of the number of textiles in the collection,
and because of limited exhibition space, some of these textiles have never
before been exhibited. Over 35 blankets and rugs, originally belonging to
the family, will be on exhibition. This will be the first time the
Millicent Rogers Museum has ever exhibited this many textiles at once.

Since the Museum's founding over fifty years ago, the Millicent Rogers
Museum has grown into an important educational institution where arts,
cultures, and histories reside. Treasures from the Vault: A Family Legacy
honors Millicent Rogers and the Millicent Rogers Family for the legacy
they have created for future generations.
