The Taos Center for the Arts and title sponsor Centinel Bank of Taos bring Buílle and Karan Casey to the Taos Community Auditorium on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
Karan Casey, vocalist with the group, is described by the Associated Press as having "a voice so beautiful it's almost impossible to avoid falling under her spell." She is featured with Buílle in an extraordinary evening of the best of Irish music.
The world acclaimed Buílle (pronounced "bweé-luh") is made up of concertina virtuoso Niall Vallely, his brother Caoimhín on piano, and guitar powerhouse Paul Meehan.
Niall Vallely began playing the concertina at the age of seven and is acknowledged as one of the finest, even considered the best by some, concertina players anywhere. The Vallely brothers, Niall and Caoimhín, two of the foremost instrumentalists in traditional Irish music, play two of the most difficult musical instruments ever devised - the uilleann pipes and the anglo concertina. They have performed with Irish super-band "Lunasa" and in Riverdance. Paul Neehan has recorded three albums and has spent a number of years touring and recording with Dorsa, the Karan Casey band, and Lunasa.
Karan Casey performed as vocalist for the Irish groups Solas and Lunasa and recently released her fifth solo album, "Ships in the Forest." As a member of Solas for four and a half years, Casey received critical acclaim from Japan to America as one of Ireland's great singers. Her multiple collaborative releases include the Grammy-winning "Celtic Solstice" with Paul Winter & Friends. Casey, regarded as "one of the true glories of Irish music today" (The Wall Street Journal), has been twice voted Best Female traditional/Folk artist by Irish Music Magazine readers and was nominated for a prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Award.
