1) As of today, April 9, 2008, Renee Barela-Gutierrez, Town of Taos Legal Counsel, has tended her resignation and take a position with Taos County as their Director of Human Resources.  She will start her new duties May 12, 2008.  Brenda Cordova, Town of Taos Human Resources Director, can be contacted at bcordova@taosgov.com for more information about the open position of Town of Taos Legal Counsel, Town Manager, and other available positions with the Town of Taos.

2) 8 to 10 a.m., tomorrow, Thursday, April 10, 2008, the new Fair Trade Steering Committee for the Town of Taos will have an organizational meeting in the El Taoseno Room, Town of Taos Convention Center, Civic Plaza Dr.

The Fair Trade Resolution passed and acted on by the Town of Taos Council makes this municipality the first officially designated ‘Fair Trade Town’ in New Mexico, the first in the western United States, and only the fifth the nation, according to Fair Trade Towns U.S.A. An official release from the Steering Committee will be issued nationally about this designation/action in the next few weeks.  The Town of Taos resolution is attached, with the Fair Trade Steering Committee carrying out the action items noted in it.

At tomorrow’s Steering Committee meeting, the video Buyer Be Fair, focusing on education concerning the Fair Trade movement, will be shared along with discussion about how the new steering committee is going to operate, priority tasks such as public/business education, development of a Taos Fair Trade Goods directory, and other action items.  The public is welcome.  At the first meeting Chris Pieper, Mudd and Flood, was elected chair; Betty Backer, Cids Market, vice chair.  Members to date include:
