Mayor and Council Priorities, Town of Taos 4/3/08
Today, a special council meeting occurred to review --
a) Mayor and Town Council action priorities, and
b) review the capital improvement priorities submitted by staff for each department for the 2008-09 budget. These are capital improvement projects (CIPs) from staff that were limited to 'one per department' this year, and also are the ones directly funded by the Town's general fund budget. There are other capital projects that funding is sought for, short and long term, that come from state appropriations, grants, etc. (For a copy of the 'working' CIP staff generated spreadsheet of potential projects, send a return email).
In brief, bulleted form, Mayor/Council priorities as stated today include:
Economic Development
-
Design, fund and build Alexander Gusdorf ECO Park
-
Collaborate with Taos County to lease and renovate the Old County Courthouse on the Plaza (to include public restrooms, cultural center/museum, etc.)
-
Market Taos
Community Development
-
Infrastructure (Este Es Road, Trails, Bicycle Paths, Streets/Sidewalks, Extend Salazar for ECO Park)
-
Develop Master Plan
-
Maintain and implement solid budget strategies
-
Action to make Department Directors classified employees; implement pay and classification equalization/competitiveness plan
-
Education (collaborate with local schools; Taos as an 'education destination')
-
Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance
Affordable Work Force Housing
-
Transfer 11 lots to the Taos Housing Corp (these already have ready-infrastructure)
-
Design and approve development of 80 lots in Chamisa Verde using draft SmartCode; building an additional 19 houses (these still need infrastructure implementation prior to development)
Certainly the Mayor/Council will be revisiting these regularly with staff to determine the status of each, including the ability to implement them in the short term, and what obstacles may exist beyond the Town's immediate control. Amendments/additions may be made - but this provides a guide for the public and staff to know the current Mayor/Council focus when it comes to action priorities.
