Town of Taos News Brief #33 March 28, 2008

Yesterday’s Town of Taos Council Executive Session resulted in the action of Allen Vigil being officially hired as the new Town of Taos Director of Planning. Vigil has served in this capacity previously, and has experience with the Town’s many demands in this area.

At the Special Town Council Meeting also yesterday, the Council approved Human Resource’s national search for a new Town Manager. This outreach will begin as soon as official public notices/advertisements can be legally arranged. Check the Town of Taos web site, http://www.taosgov.com for details such as salary range and minimum experience/education, as they’re available – within the next two weeks.

On both topics, members of the public wishing added information can email Brenda Cordova, Human Resources Director, at bcordova@taosgov.com.

Council also discussed their own prioritization of goals, and committed during this current 08-09 budget process to develop this overview – to assist them, staff and the public with clarity on their short and long term priorities, and the specific objectives to attain success with each.

This discussion included budget realignments to meet their already articulated priorities, including the hiring of a Community and Economic Development Director, refunding at the $120,000 level of the three community request for proposal (RFP) processes that granted funding this past year to area organizations in the areas of youth violence reduction, economic development and community development, reduction in Council travel and other expenditures as part of Executive and Council Set Aside budgets, and the expansion of the Taos Marketing Budget.

Concerning the Executive Session item regarding the potential “acquisition of property”, Council decided not to pursue the purchase at this point in time.
