It Isn’t the Dirt Says the Pastor in Chimayo

The Santuario de Chimayo is a very holy place to many. The containers of dirt that they take away are said to contain healing qualities. The Rev. Casimiro Roca doesn’t agree with this, stating that it is faith and “the work of the Good Lord.”

The San Francisco Chronicle online presents an interesting article on the holy dirt at the Santuario de Chimayo. They truck in dirt, and the Pastor says it must be “clean dirt.” Once warehoused, the dirt is said to pick up its holy attributes and powers from residence there.
