Is it a Good Time to Buy Taos Real Estate?
It’s early 2008, and the statistics show that Taos real estate sales were down anywhere from 25% to 40% last year from the previous year. It varies by area and by how you break out the statistics, with gross sales dollars not down as much as the number of transactions.
With most of the country predicting a bottom late this year, with an improvement in 2009, I think Taos is ahead of that schedule. The depth of our sales drop isn’t as great as in many markets, and prices haven’t dropped as much as some might have desired. There are more buyers out already this year, and web traffic is up on Taos real estate searches. My guess is that our market is stabilizing, with little further decline. We should see slow, but steady improvement beginning this summer, with a return to more normal activity by the end of the year.
If I’m wrong, I’ll eat crow with a post here in December.
