Stakeout is an area about 15 minutes south of Taos, comprising the foothills from the highway east. It rises fast, with huge views of the valley and the Rio Grande Gorge. The Stakeout Restaurant is famous for its food and sunsets.

There are subdivision lots, some older homes, and a growing number of large new homes in the Stakeout area. Wells can be a bit deep here, so be careful about budgeting for water.
